Pearl South Padre is a high-rise tower resort located right on the beach in South Padre Island, Texas. South Padre Island is located at the southernmost tip of Texas, right along the Mexican border. This beach town features some of the nicest beaches in the gulf and the clearest, prettiest water! Many Texas beaches are known for having brown water, but the water at South Padre Island is the classic, sparkling blue.
I took my first trip to the Texas Gulf Coast this past winter and booked a weekend stay at the Pearl South Padre Resort. Besides the beachfront location and giant pool, the number one thing that drew me to this resort was the fact that they are pet friendly! Our two dogs hung out in the air-conditioned room while we explore the pool. We saw lots of other guests walking their dogs near the resort grounds, but never heard any barking or other disturbances while we were inside.
South Padre Island is about a six hour drive from Austin, so Friday night after work we loaded up the car with our two dogs and headed south. We arrived around midnight and checked into our ocean view room which also overlooked the resort’s stunning pool area. The room was spacious and comfortable with a large balcony — everything we needed for our quick weekend trip.
During my stay, the November weather could not have been more perfect. Skies were sunny and clear, and the temperatures were in the mid 80’s! The resort offers easy beach access via a short path and is close to the island’s many restaurants, bars, and things to do.
We booked a king room with an ocean view. Our particular room overlooked the pool area with a clear view of the ocean beyond that. It was a gorgeous view that made sitting out on our balcony so peaceful! I felt that the Pearl South Padre offered an amazing value for the price. We paid $230* (rates change — click here for current pricing) for two weekend nights and for the quality of the resort, would have expected to pay much more. The room was simple but spacious and the bed was comfortable.
The onsite restaurant exceeded our expectations. We ate there for breakfast both mornings and everything was delicious and reasonably priced. They offered several mimosa flavors and the servers were just so nice. Our group kept commenting that every staff member we interacted with was so friendly and helpful. We ordered from the swim-up bar for lunch and enjoyed snacks like nachos and quesadillas that were perfect for a day by the pool.
Our trip was super short — we arrived Friday night around midnight and checked out Sunday morning — that we really only had one day (Saturday) to enjoy the resort. I wish we could have stayed longer but we certainly made the most of our one day on South Padre Island. We spent the entire day lounging by the pool, ordering several drinks from the poolside bar, and walking the beach. It was a perfect day!
I can’t recommend a weekend at the Pearl South Padre enough — especially if you are looking for a pet-friendly getaway! South Padre Island is about 6 hours south of Austin, TX and a feasible drive for a long weekend.
